Why Motcomb Street is rapidly becoming London’s new foodie hub

Eating out in London is always a treat. From leading restaurants to chic cafes and gastro-pubs serving real ale, the capital offers a variety of dining options that very few cities can rival. Areas such as Soho and Brick Lane have become places of pilgrimage for foodies. Yet, until very recently, we would not have claimed that Motcomb Street belonged to such exalted company.

All that is changing fast with the redevelopment of the area and, the restored Pantechnicon, due to open next spring. The project has been overseen by the Cubitt House group, working in conjunction with the Grosvenor Estate, and will comprise a new food and retail emporium set over six floors, including a basement and south-facing roof terrace.

“Motcomb Street has always been a desirable place to live, shop and eat, but it will be firmly on the radar with the opening of The Pantechnicon,” says James Bailey, Chief Executive of Henry & James. “The area will continue to appeal to those who live around Belgravia, as well as attracting many who appreciate fine-dining in the centre of town.”

Make no mistake, Motcomb Street is on the move. And as the restored Pantechnicon nears completion, the whole character of the area is set to be transformed, particularly for people whose idea of heaven is walking down the street looking at restaurant menus and getting a tantalising aroma of food from the kitchen.

Established local favourites such as Motcombs, Amaya, The Good Life Eatery, the Alfred Tennyson, Mosimann’s Club and Ottolenghi Belgravia will soon be joined by a whole new wave of stylish eateries. It will make Motcomb Street a true destination address, for the city’s gastronomes.

We can hardly wait.
